Our elegant hand-turned chestnut wood plate combines tactile joy with contemporary style. It has an elegant upturned rim that ripples in a reflection of each plate's individual origin and is a perfect partner for fruit or dry food presentation, or as a table centrepiece.
Each plate starts life as a tree on the Dartington Estate in Devon. It is transformed from planks by volunteers on a work-based training scheme designed to support current and former prisoners back into the community and to help reduce reoffending. You can read more on our Makers page.
From a 'blank', plates are manually shaped on a lathe and carved with a chisel. Carving happens only when a tree needs to be removed and, by keeping the carving on site, the tree-to-table impact is negligible.
Due to the organic materials and handmade nature of these products, some natural variation in grain, colour and shape may occur. Images depict the item as accurately as possible. The colours and textures will change over time as the plate develops its own character and patina
CARE INSTRUCTIONSYour plate will last best if you clean it gently with a damp cloth. It has not been oiled (though you can do so if you wish) and should never be left in water or put in the dishwasher. Best stored out of direct sunlight.
